When we feel that desire and calling to serve in our hearts, we need to pay attention to it and act upon it. It is something to nurture. That commitment to do anything and go anywhere for God is in all of us. Perhaps you thought serving Jesus was only for certain people or that there were certain things you needed to know. The reality is simple: you were created to serve. In Ephesians 2:8-10, as believers in Jesus we are taught some foundational truths about salvation:
Ephesians 2:7–10 (NKJV) “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
While writing to the Ephesian believers the Holy Spirit through Paul wants us to see our grace-relationship with God. In it we learn at least two things: we love Him because He first loved us, and we have been created to serve. God is working in and us and through us to make an eternal and lasting difference in this world.
Pray today and ask the Lord for HIS heart to serve others, then, SERVE; open the door, offer to carry a package, bring your spouse a glass of water, ask your waitress how you can pray for her, be open to how the Lord might use you in the life of someone else this week and every week!
Philippians 2:12–13 (NKJV) “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
