Sin is so pervasive today that it sometimes clouds our clear view of God’s great forgiveness. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden, they plunged all of humanity into the sick sea of sin, starting with themselves. But God provided a way for them to be restored. They didn’t have to live forever separated from Him.
Isaiah 1:18–20 (NKJV) ““Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Even as the curse of sin was pronounced, God included the hope of salvation through Eve. It’s incredible, isn’t it, the grace of God. Here is Eve, who herself was deceived, now being used to bring the Messiah, Jesus Christ, into the world. God turns everything on its head and declares that it will be through women salvation of all humanity shall come! Yes, Eve was deceived. Yes, God will redeem it. I love how God rescues, redeems, and reconciles. He will use even our failures for His great plan!
Genesis 3:14–15 (NKJV) “So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly, you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
You and I today, believers in the Seed of the woman, the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, live by faith in His life, death, and resurrection. Jesus defeated the devil some 2000 years ago. He conquered sin and death. That means we don’t fight FOR victory, but we fight FROM victory. We stand on the ground that is already victorious. He is our strength. He is our help. He is our Redeemer.
God’s heart is to rescue and redeem you. He knows your every weakness, your every failure, your every fear. Even if you choose to run away, He will passionately pursue you with His love.
Isaiah 44:21–22 (NKJV) “Remember these, O Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”
What a beautiful picture of the heart of God! So often, we think that because we have sinned, we are unforgivable and cast aside. But that is simply untrue. Will you believe that today? We see again and again how God is always pursuing us, even when we are running away from Him. When we finally come to our senses and return to Him, He rejoices over us with great gladness. What a fantastic picture of the forgiveness of God! He has a plan of restoration for you today.
