In a recent Bible study, I asked an essential question to our church family.
When will the Church be as desperate for the lost as the world is desperate for sin?
This is not just a question; it’s a call to prayerful action. It challenges our complacency and serves as a wake-up call to the urgency of Jesus’s mission on earth today. If we are truly on mission with Jesus, then loving others is our mandate.
Luke 19:9–10 (NKJV) “And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
I hope you will accept the challenge. Do you truly care about the lost? Are you willing to step into Christ’s redemptive story?
What will it take for you to be as desperate to reach the lost as the world is desperate for sin? There’s a significant disconnect today between the church and its effectiveness and the way the world loves sin and just goes for it. Why is that?
Matthew 28:18–20 (NKJV) “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
It’s too bad that the reputation of the Church is widely known for what we are against. We’ve done a great job letting everyone know what sin is, what sin looks like, and what sin does to a culture. That’s only half the gospel. Once sin is recognized, Jesus is the answer! When was the last time you shared Jesus with someone? When was the last time you shared the gospel in any way with someone in your life?
Remember when Paul came to Athens in Acts 17? When he saw the idolatry all around him, he was provoked. He was emotionally moved. He was overcome with feelings about the lostness of Athens. What did he do? Did he preach at them? Did he condemn them? Did he make sure they knew how dark and dirty their sin was? No. He loved them enough to share the gospel with them in a respectful, loving, and caring way.
It’s time, friend. It’s time. Pray for a desperation to reach the lost. God is ready to give it to you. Otherwise, you’ll remain good at calling out the darkness and doing nothing about it.
Psalm 119:136 (NKJV) “Rivers of water run down from my eyes Because men do not keep Your law.”
