Waiting on God is rarely easy. We just aren’t conditioned to wait. We quickly get impatient and jump in to “make things happen.”
We have our timing. God has his timing. If these two don’t line up perfectly, we choose to either wait on God or act on our own. How many times have we jumped in to “help God out” only to find that we made things so much worse? Waiting can be challenging.
It’s important to remember that God’s timing is always perfect. We can look back at other times of waiting in our lives and see now with a clear vision of what God wanted to do. It could have been disastrous if it had happened earlier or later, or sometimes if the situation had happened at all. We learned that God’s timing is always perfect.
Waiting can be discouraging. If we’re not careful, we will begin to overthink the whole situation and entertain thoughts that separate us from God. Thoughts like God doesn’t love you anymore, God has forgotten you, or even worse, thoughts of walking away from God.
You find that you are getting mad at God. You won’t read the Bible anymore. Your prayer life is stale or nonexistent. Your spiritual life is drying up quickly. What’s happening to you is your faith is being undermined. You want something more than you want God. You want what you want when you want it, and you may have even chosen to avoid God to get it.
Get back to a place of waiting upon the Lord today.
Look at what God promises to those who wait:
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
- Renewed strength (faithlessness to trust)
- Renewed freedom (soaring like eagles)
- Renewed passion (running without getting tired)
- Renewed progress (walking forward again)
These are yours by faith. Take a moment, repent of your impatience, and surrender to that place of faithful waiting upon the Lord. He is ready to receive you, and you are ready to be renewed!
Isaiah 25:9 (NKJV) “And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”
