I’m reading last month’s book of the month, “Love” by Pastor Chuck Smith. I enjoy receiving from Pastor Chuck and growing in grace under his teaching.  He had a way of making the love and grace of God burst alive in our hearts and minds.

Ephesians 2:4 (NKJV) “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,”

The love of God is vast. God, Himself is love. It’s His very character and nature!

But sometimes, the world’s sorrows and difficulties have a way of clouding the love of God in our lives. Our experience of love can get lost in the fog of pain, sadness, and anguish that comes from significant loss and grief. It’s even possible that you become mad at God and accuse Him of not loving you because of the intense pain.

Ephesians 3:14–19 (NKJV) “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

But the truth is that God’s love for us never changes, no matter what we’re going through. He often uses difficult times to draw us closer to Him and reveal His great love for us in new ways. You can draw near to Him even in the fog of hurt. As the old hymn says, “He loves me, He loves me still, Though I’m very far from home.”

No matter what you’re going through today, rest your heart on the fact that God’s love is greater than anything else. And His song will be with you in the night.

Pastor Chuck writes, “Despite God’s tremendous love for us, we feel overwhelmed. Great billows of grief, sorrow, and trouble overflow us—and yet, even then, the Lord commands His lovingkindness in the daytime, and His song will be with us in the night. That’s how great His love really is.

Psalm 42:8 (NKJV) “The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me— A prayer to the God of my life.”

I can’t tell you how many times this truth has comforted the depths of my soul. We’re reminded that no matter how hard it is today, the Lord is with us, and He is faithfully helping us get through the moment, the day, the week, and the trial.

To think, His song is over me even at night. WOW!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s difficulties, remember that God’s love is always with you. And His song will be with you in the night.
